Exempting Exams

Exempting Exams:

Students who take two or more high school level classes during middle school are eligible to exempt some of their mid-terms and or final exams.  This is a reward for scholastic achievement.  Students need to maintain their grades in order to be eligible, and have parental permission to qualify. Below is the application which describes the specific criteria students need in more detail.  Please call your child’s school guidance counselor if you have any further questions.

Florida Standards

The State of Florida has adopted new student performance standards in English/Language Arts and Mathematics, which are called the Florida Standards. The Florida Standards raise the education bar and put more emphasis on critical thinking skills. In English/Language Arts, the Florida Standards increase the focus on nonfiction reading.  In Mathematics, students will work deeper in fewer topics. To learn more about the new Florida Standards, visit www.definingthecore.com.

Under the new Florida Standards, the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) is being replaced by a new assessment, which will debut in Spring 2015.  The new assessment is being developed by the American Institutes for Research.  To learn more about the new assessment, visit:http://www.fldoe.org/eduaccsummit.asp.  Parents and students can also learn more about the new assessment and take a sample test, by visiting:http://fsassessments.org/students-and-parents.
